Court Issues Temporary Stay on Trump's Layoff Plan

Washington, May 10 (HS): A federal judge in California issued a temporary stay on President Donald Trump’s recent layoff proposal for two weeks on Friday. This proposal has been challenged in several federal courts. The federal judge’s order could have a significant impact on the Trump administration’s layoff proposals.

According to a Reports , the Trump administration has prepared a layoff plan involving two dozen agencies. The order from federal district judge Susan Illston in the Northern District of California has dealt a significant blow to the administration. The judge has deemed such a proposal illegal. In response to this order, Trump’s top aide Stephen Miller stated that courts should not interfere unnecessarily. The Trump administration has also prepared a proposal to dismiss three Democratic members of an agency.

The judge announced the decision just hours after an emergency hearing. Judge Susan ordered the administration to halt efforts to implement widespread layoffs as well as to shut down offices and programs. Congress has established a specific process for the federal government to reorganize itself. Unions and organizations behind the lawsuit have argued that the president does not have the authority to make such decisions without the legislative branch.

Judge Susan Illston wrote in her 42-page order, Advancing priorities in a new policy and leaving an impression on the federal government is the president’s privilege. But any president must seek the assistance of their equal branch and partner, Congress, when making large-scale changes to federal agencies.
