
New Delhi, 23 February (HS): The Customs Department has arrested three people on charges of wildlife smuggling at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). These three Indian passengers had landed at IGI with rare wildlife from a flight coming from Bangkok. Customs officials recovered exotic and rare wildlife from their bags.
According to the Customs Department, three passengers had landed from Air India flight AI 303 coming from Bangkok to Delhi. Customs officials caught these three passengers at IGI Airport at 1:30 am late night. On searching, exotic and rare wildlife were recovered from their bags.
According to the Customs Department, wildlife of different species were found from the bags of the three passengers. Among these wildlife, there were many snakes of different species. Five of these are corn snakes, eight milk snakes and nine ball python snakes. Apart from these, lizards of many different species have also been recovered. The lizards include four bearded dragons, seven crested geckos, 11 Cameroon dwarf geckos and one gecko. Apart from this, 14 elephant worms and one spider have also been recovered. These wildlife have been confiscated by the customs officials and the three passengers have been handed over to the concerned agencies for further investigation.
