Srinagar- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving the Rs 1,677 crore Civil Enclave project at Srinagar International Airport.
In a post on X, the Lieutenant Governor described the decision as the “dawn of a bold aviation era” for Jammu and Kashmir and said the approval marks a defining leap in connectivity for the Valley.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has cleared the development of a new 71,500 square metre Civil Enclave terminal designed to handle 2,900 passengers during peak hours, with an annual capacity of 10 million passengers.
Sinha recalled that the proposal had been announced in Srinagar on September 25, 2021 in the presence of the then Civil Aviation Minister. He said the project would significantly strengthen air connectivity and drive tourism, investment and employment generation in the region.
“Better connectivity will ensure more tourists, more investment and more jobs,” he said, adding that the new Civil Enclave would upgrade the Valley’s economic prospects and transform Srinagar into a thriving destination.
The airport operates under the Airports Authority of India within the Budgam Airbase of the Indian Air Force.
The Lieutenant Governor also said that the new terminal at Jammu Airport is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Once commissioned, he said, the upgraded infrastructure would further enhance connectivity and accelerate economic growth in the region.
