Dawoodi Bohra Community Thanks PM Modi for Landmark Waqf Amendment Act

Delhi, 17 April (H.S.): On Thursday, a delegation representing the Dawoodi Bohra community met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express their gratitude for the recently passed Waqf Amendment Act. This legislation had been a long-standing demand of the community and its completion was welcomed by its members. The community leaders also reiterated their support for PM Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’ and expressed hope that the reforms initiated in the Waqf law will help improve the situation of the Muslim community as a whole.

This support from the Dawoodi Bohra community is significant as there have been concerns raised by other Muslim bodies, clerics, and ulemas regarding the infringement on their religious rights by the new legislation. Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, also attended the meeting and shared pictures of it on social media.

The Dawoodi Bohras, who are a sect within the Shia Ismaili branch of Islam, have a significant presence in India and many other countries around the world. They had previously written to the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, requesting exemption from its purview due to their special status within the wider Muslim community.

Overall, the meeting between the Dawoodi Bohra community and PM Modi was a gesture of appreciation for the government’s efforts to bring about much-needed reforms in the Waqf law.
