Kyiv, 27 October (H.S.): A massive overnight Russian drone attack on the Ukrainian capital this weekend left at least three people dead and more than 30 injured, including several children, as residential buildings were struck in multiple districts. The assault, which occurred early on Sunday, October 26, 2025, marked the second consecutive night of deadly strikes on Kyiv.
Ukrainian officials reported that among the three killed in a nine-story apartment building were a mother and her 19-year-old daughter. The number of wounded climbed throughout the day, with reports confirming at least 31 to 33 people injured, seven of whom were children. The strikes caused significant damage to civilian infrastructure, particularly in the city’s northern and eastern districts.
According to Ukraine’s Air Force, Russia launched 101 drones of various types, including Iranian-made Shaheds, in the overnight barrage. While air defense systems successfully intercepted 90 of the drones, several direct hits were reported, and falling debris from downed drones caused extensive damage and fires in the Desnianskyi, Obolonskyi, and Darnytskyi districts.
The most severe damage occurred in the Desnianskyi district, where a drone struck a nine-story residential building, causing floors to collapse and sparking a major fire. Emergency services worked to extinguish the blaze and rescue residents from the damaged structure.
The attack followed a separate missile and drone strike the previous night, which killed two people and injured 13 in the capital. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Sunday that Russia had launched nearly 1,200 attack drones, over 1,360 guided bombs, and more than 50 missiles against Ukraine in the past week alone, accusing Moscow of a deliberate campaign of terror against the civilian population.
