Kabul, 22 October (H.S.): A deep earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 struck the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan on Tuesday, sending strong tremors through the nation’s capital, Kabul. The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported that the seismic event occurred at a considerable depth of 244 kilometers (152 miles).

Witnesses in Kabul confirmed feeling the powerful shaking, though there were no immediate reports of significant damage or casualties.

The quake was registered by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) at a location 34 kilometers west of the town of Ishkashim in Badakhshan province.

The Hindu Kush mountain range is a highly seismically active zone, frequently experiencing tremors due to its location at the convergence of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
