Bangkok, June 2(HS): India excelled at the Thailand Open Boxing Tournament 2025, securing eight medals. Gold medals were achieved by Deepak and Naman Tanwar, with Deepak defeating Uzbekistan’s Abdurkhimov Javokhir 5-0 in the men’s 75 kg category through a dominant performance after a cautious start. Naman Tanwar won gold in the 90 kg final against China’s Han Xuezhen with a score of 4-1, leveraging early rounds to secure his victory despite a third-round challenge.
Kiran earned a silver medal in the women’s 80+ kg category, narrowly losing to Kazakhstan’s Yeldana Talipova 2-3. Additionally, five female boxers—Tamanna (51 kg), Priya (57 kg), Sanju (60 kg), Saneh (70 kg), and Lalfakamawi Ralte (80 kg)—secured bronze medals. Controversy arose with Anshul Gill, who, despite winning his semifinal in the 90+ kg category, was declared ineligible after a complaint from the Uzbekistan coach. India sent a strong 19-member team to the tournament, building on past successes, including 1 gold and 6 medals at the World Boxing Cup in Brazil. The team aims for continued success at the upcoming World Boxing Cup phases in Kazakhstan and New Delhi.
