
New Delhi, March 1 (HS): Delhi’s Patiala House Court has allowed withdrawal of FIR registered against former JNU student leader Shehla Rashid for tweeting on Indian Army. On the petition of Delhi Police, Chief Judicial Magistrate Anuj Kumar Singh allowed withdrawal of the case registered against Shehla Rashid.
Delhi Police had filed a petition saying that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi has withdrawn the permission given to prosecute Shehla Rashid on 23 December 2024. The Lieutenant Governor has taken this decision based on the recommendation of a screening committee.
In fact, on the basis of the complaint lodged by lawyer Alakh Alok Srivastava, the Special Cell of Delhi Police had registered an FIR against Shehla Rashid in 2019 under sections 124A, 153A, 153, 504 and 505 of the Indian Penal Code. Lawyer Alakh Alok Srivastava had lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police and alleged that Shehla had made baseless allegations against the Indian Army through her tweets.
Alakh Alok Srivastava had demanded action by registering an FIR against Shehla on charges of treason and spreading animosity between communities.
Lawyer Alakh Alok Srivastava had made Shehla’s tweets the basis of his complaint and demanded action against Shehla by registering a case under sections 124A, 153, 153A, 504, 505 of the Indian Penal Code and various sections of the Information Technology Act.
