New Delhi, March 06 (HS)The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to former UN Assistant Secretary-General Lakshmi Puri on Trinamool Congress MP Saket Gokhale’s demand to withdraw the order of fine of Rs 50 lakh in the case of derogatory tweet. During the hearing before the court of Justice Purushendra Kaurav on Thursday, the lawyer appearing for Saket Gokhale said that this order of the High Court was one-sided, as his lawyer could not appear.

In fact, the Delhi High Court in its order dated July 01, 2024 directed Saket Gokhale to pay a fine of Rs 50 lakh to Lakshmi Puri in the case of derogatory tweets made against Lakshmi Puri. In its order, the High Court, along with imposing a fine on Saket Gokhale, also asked to print his apology in this regard in an English newspaper Times of India. Lakshmi Puri had filed this petition in 2021.

Senior Advocate Maninder Singh, appearing for Puri, had said that Saket Gokhale had tweeted on June 13, 2021 and June 23, 2021 asking about the source of Puri’s income.
