New Delhi, March 12 (H.S.): The Delhi High Court has prohibited YouTuber Shyam Meera Singh from creating and posting allegedly defamatory videos against the Isha Foundation of Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev on social media. Justice Subramaniam Prasad also directed Shyam Meera Singh to delete the tweets and videos posted against the Isha Foundation. The next hearing of the case will be on May 9.
The court stated that these videos are prima facie defamatory and that an individual’s image is an integral part of their dignity. The court emphasized that a balance should be maintained between freedom of expression and an individual’s image. The court instructed Google and Meta Platforms to immediately remove the videos posted by Shyam Meera Singh about the Isha Foundation. The court also directed Shyam Meera Singh, his staff, and any associated individuals not to upload this video on any platform. Additionally, the court advised the general public not to share this video on any platform.
The petition from the Isha Foundation stated that YouTuber and journalist Shyam Meera Singh uploaded a video on YouTube on February 24 titled Sadhguru EXPOSED: What’s happening in Jaggi Vasudev’s Ashram. This video claimed that minor girls are being sexually exploited in the Isha Foundation’s ashram. The petition asserted that Shyam Meera Singh uploaded the video without verifying the facts, which is defamatory.
