New Delhi, April 23 (H.S.): To address pollution in Delhi, a ban on trucks and commercial vehicles with BS-6 and lower emission standards will take effect from November 1, 2025. Only BS6 compliant vehicles, along with those powered by CNG, electricity, and diesel, will be allowed entry.

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has mandated this restriction on various vehicle types, including LGVs, MGVs, and HGVs, while permitting only local vehicles that don’t meet the BS6 standard.

Additionally, from July 1, 2025, diesel vehicles over ten years old and petrol vehicles over fifteen years old will be denied fuel, identified through ANPR cameras at fuel stations. This regulation will be enforced at 126 border entry points in Delhi, along with 52 NHAI toll plazas equipped with ANPR cameras linked to vehicle databases. Identification of vehicles will consider valid registration, fitness, PUC, permits, and insurance. These measures aim to combat seasonal pollution in the Delhi NCR, especially during winter months when air quality deteriorates.

The Supreme Court oversees the periodic review of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), which imposes further restrictions, like prohibiting BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel vehicles when pollution levels spike.
