
New Delhi, 28 February (HS): Additional Sessions Judge Pulastya Pramachala of Delhi’s Karkardooma Court has acquitted Mohammad Shahnawaz, accused in the murder case of Dilbar Negi, who worked at Anil Sweet House in Brijpuri, in the violence case in North-East Delhi. The court gave the benefit of doubt to Mohammad Shahnawaz in the absence of evidence and acquitted him of all the charges.
Earlier, on October 25, 2023, the court had acquitted 11 accused in this case. The court had said that the presence of all these at different places and involvement in different incidents of violence does not mean that they were involved in the murder of Dilbar Negi. On October 25, 2023, the court had framed charges against Mohammad Shahnawaz for murder, rioting and being part of an unlawful mob. The court had framed charges against Shahnawaz under sections 148, 1543A, 302, 436, 450 and 188 of the Indian Penal Code. In this case, an FIR was registered against Mohammad Shahnawaz, Mohammad Faisal, Azad, Ashraf, Rashid alias Monu, Shahrukh, Mohammad Shoaib, Parvez, Rashid alias Raja, Mohammad Tahit, Salman and Sonu Saifi.
According to Delhi Police, rioters set fire to Anil Sweet Shop located at Chaman Park on Main Brijpuri Road on February 24, 2020, due to which Dilbar Negi, who worked there, died. Dilbar Negi’s body was found near Anil Sweet House in Brijpuri on February 26, 2020. According to the police, Dilbar Negi was a resident of Uttarakhand. Delhi Police had arrested 12 people in this case. Delhi Police filed a charge sheet on June 4, 2020.
