Jammu, March 06: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday took to the streets to protest in Jammu against Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary’s remark calling the last Dogra king of Kashmir, Maharaja Hari Singh, a “dictator.”

Chaudhary stated that Maharajas were dictators as they were selected rather than elected.

Addressing the protesters, one participant said, “They (referring to Surinder Chaudhary) repeatedly make unconstitutional statements, disturbing the peaceful atmosphere, which will not be tolerated.”

Another protester condemned the deputy chief minister’s statement, demanding, “We want Surinder Chaudhary to take back his words and acknowledge his mistake.

Notably, Chaudhary had referred to Maharaja Hari Singh as a “dictator” in the assembly. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, he reiterated, “Aren’t Maharajas dictators? Were they elected?”
