DGCA directs airlines to share passenger information via SMS

New Delhi, March 24 (H.S.) : The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued new and strict guidelines to Indian airlines. Under these directives, they must inform passengers about their rights. The DGCA has taken this step to raise awareness among passengers regarding their rights.

In the order issued by the DGCA, it is mandatory for all airlines to send a link to the : charter available from the Ministry of Civil Aviation via SMS or WhatsApp after a ticket is booked. The regulator has also instructed airlines to provide information about passenger rights through SMS and WhatsApp.

The regulator has stated that airlines should send an online link to the passenger charter available on the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s website as a message (SMS/WhatsApp) after the ticket is booked. The DGCA has directed airlines to also provide a link to passenger rights along with the airline ticket.

Additionally, the DGCA has ordered Indian airlines to inform passengers about their rights regarding delays, cancellations, denied boarding, and baggage-related issues. The regulator has asked airlines to share the online passenger charter link through SMS, WhatsApp, tickets, and their websites. However, IndiGo has already begun implementing this directive.
