Bhubaneswar, 12 May (H.S.) Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania on Monday visited the Jagannath Temple in Puri to review security preparations ahead of the upcoming Snana Yatra and Rath Yatra festivals. The annual Rath Yatra, which attracts lakhs of devotees from across the globe, is one of the state’s largest religious events, requiring robust security and crowd management.

As part of the preparations, DGP Khurania held a high-level review meeting at the office of the Puri Superintendent of Police (SP). The meeting was attended by senior police officials, including Additional DGPs Sanjay Kumar, Amitabh Thakur, Dayal Gangwar, Praveen Kumar, Anup Sahoo, and Pinaki Mishra, as well as SP Vinit Agrawal. The discussions focused on key areas such as crowd control, traffic regulation, and maintenance of law and order during the grand event.

In addition to the review meeting, DGP Khurania conducted a thorough inspection of the security arrangements in and around the Jagannath Temple. He assessed the deployment of CCTV surveillance systems, rapid response teams, and coordination mechanisms with district and local authorities. Emphasising that public safety is of paramount importance, the DGP directed officials to remain on high alert given the massive turnout anticipated during Rath Yatra.

As part of enhanced security protocols, an armoured vehicle ‘Vajra’ has been stationed at the temple entrance. The DGP also inspected modern security infrastructure and interacted with various units of the police force and other security personnel deployed in the area.
