– Attack on Pradyut Bordoloi is a conspiracy of Congress: Dilip Saikia
Guwahati, 28 April (HS): Assam State BJP President Dilip Saikia has demanded that Akhil Gogoi be banned from participating in any future elections for making extremist and communal remarks. Saikia, MP from Darang-Udalguri, issued a statement on Monday saying that the BJP has submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission on Akhil Gogoi’s call to Muslim voters not to vote for the BJP.
Saikia described Akhil Gogoi’s remarks as inappropriate, insensitive and an extreme example of appeasement politics. He said that the person elected from a glorious historical region like Sivasagar, from where Gogoi is an MLA, is taking the side of the Mughals, which is a big insult to Assamese pride. Saikia said that the self-respecting Assamese people have strongly condemned this comment of Gogoi.
It is noteworthy that on the instructions of Saikia, a delegation of BJP, which included state vice-president Ashok Bhattacharya, submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission and demanded strict action against Gogoi.
On the other hand, BJP Assam Pradesh has strongly condemned the attack on the car of Congress leader and MP Pradyut Bordoloi by anti-social elements. However, Dilip Saikia strongly rejected the attempts to drag the Chief Minister into this controversy.
He questioned that no such incident happened with any other Congress leader engaged in Panchayat election campaign, which raises suspicion that the workers angry with complaints like Paisa Do, Ticket Lo within the Congress may be behind this. He said that some Congress leaders have also raised questions on this.
Saikia said that the Chief Minister has already ordered an inquiry into this incident. He also expressed apprehension that this attack could also be a pre-planned conspiracy by the Congress, which aims to tarnish the image of the BJP. Saikia clarified that both the BJP party and the government have never encouraged violence against opposition leaders or workers.
It is noteworthy that in connection with this attack on Pradyut, the Superintendent of Police of Nagaon today clarified that Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi was attacked by a Congress leader.
