Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill Presented in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, March 25 (H.S.): Home Minister Amit Shah presented the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill-2024 in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. This bill has already been passed in the Lok Sabha. The objective of the bill is to eliminate loss of life during disaster situations. The bill includes provisions to bring uniformity in the roles and functions related to disaster management at the central, state, and district levels.

The central minister stated that since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office, the capability for disaster management has continually improved, significantly reducing the damages caused. The Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, 2024 was introduced in the Lok Sabha last year on August 1. The bill amends the Disaster Management Act of 2005. The act provides for the establishment of a National Executive Committee and a State Executive Committee to assist the NDMA and SDMA in the performance of their functions.
