Domestic stock market declines; Sensex and Nifty drop

New Delhi, May 16 (HS): A strong selling pressure was observed in the domestic stock market during early trade today, resulting in market fluctuations due to competition between buyers and sellers. By 10 AM, the market was under pressure, with the Sensex declining by 0.31 percent to trade at 82,276.24 points, and the Nifty dropping 0.25 percent to 24,998.30 points. Leading stocks like Bharat Electronics, Eternal, Eicher Motors, Adani Enterprises, and NTPC saw gains between 2.13 percent and 1.18 percent, while shares of Bharti Airtel, IndusInd Bank, State Bank of India, HCL Technologies, and Infosys fell by 2.60 percent to 0.88 percent. Out of 2,410 actively traded shares, 1,848 were in the green zone, while 562 were in the red zone.

In the Sensex, 11 shares remained positive, whereas 19 faced selling pressure. Similarly, in the Nifty, 21 shares were positive and 29 were negative. The BSE Sensex opened at 82,392.63 points, down by 138.11 points, fluctuating between 82,514.81 points and 82,201.49 points during trading. The Nifty started at 25,064.65 points, with initial fluctuations leading to a decrease by 63.80 points. In comparison, the previous trading day saw the Sensex close at 82,530.74 points, a gain of 1,200.18 points or 1.48 percent, while the Nifty ended at 25,062.10 points, an increase of 395.20 points or 1.60 percent.
