Earth Trembles in China, Strong Shakes Felt in Beijing

Hong Kong/Beijing, May 19 (HS)- Earthquake tremors struck Beijing last night, registering a magnitude of 4.5 according to the United States Geological Survey. Occurring at 01:21 AM local time and at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) near Tianjin, the China Earthquake Networks Center reported a 4.2 magnitude and located the epicenter in Yongqing County, Hebei province.

Residents were awakened as students evacuated dormitories, and viral videos showed items shaking in homes. The Beijing Earthquake Agency confirmed the epicenter was just 13 kilometers from the city, with tremors felt across some areas. Fortunately, no structural damage was reported, and daily life was unaffected. Beijing, a metropolis with 22 million people, is situated in a seismically active zone containing multiple fault lines. The earthquake quickly became a trending topic on social media platforms.
