Malegaon,
25 Apr (HS): The Enforcement Directorate officials raided nine places based on
information relating to the issuance of bogus birth certificates. The Minority Cell
has objected to the raids. Former MP Kirit Somaiya had raised the issue and had
alleged that a large number of Bangladeshi Rohingya are living in Malegaon. He
also alleged that a racket was operating for issuing them bogus certificates.
They also participated in the recent Parliamentary and Assembly elections. Involvement
of the Merchant Cooperative Bank also came to the fore. Malegaon Chhaoni police
registered an offence and are investigating.
On
Friday, the ED raided nine places related to municipal and government
employees.
Meanwhile,
a member of the Minority Committee and ex-MLA Asif Sheikh said that this is an
attempt to defame Malegaon. The allegations by Somaiya have not been proved.
