Washington , 31 May (H.S.): Donald Trump and Elon Musk held a press conference in the Oval Office on Friday,where Trump praised Musk for his contributions as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) before his departure. Trump expressed confidence that Musk would still offer his support to the U.S. government in the future. During their appearance in the Oval Office, Trump stated that Musk performed excellently in his role and that he is not truly leaving.

Trump stated that many DOGE employees will stay and indicated Musk’s continued involvement in the project, thanking him for his contributions as a special government employee and noting that Musk would be back and forth.

“This is not the end of DOGE but the beginning,” says Elon Musk as he receives a gift from Donald Trump for his service.

Musk had announced his resignation from DOGE on May 28, following his public critique of Republican tax-and-budget proposals. This decision elicited a positive response from Tesla investors, resulting in a 2% increase in Tesla’s stock price. Despite stepping down, Musk has committed to refraining from future political donations and has publicly criticized Trump’s tax legislation, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” Trump highlighted Musk’s ongoing influence and expressed gratitude for his service, noting that he would be returning frequently. The press conference marked the first time the two appeared together since Musk’s announcement, prompting attention from media and viewers alike.
