England batter Brook pulls out of IPL 2025

England's batsman Harry Brook

New Delhi, March 10 (H.S.): England’s middle-order batsman Harry Brook has withdrawn his name from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He has cited his upcoming commitments and preparations with the England cricket team as the reason for this decision.

Brook was purchased by Delhi Capitals for ₹6.25 crore in the mega auction held in November. However, this is the second consecutive year that he has withdrawn from the IPL, putting him at risk of a two-year ban from the tournament.

According to new rules implemented by the IPL, If a player registers for the auction and declares himself unavailable before the tournament starts after being selected, he will be banned from participating in the IPL and future auctions for the next two seasons. However, this rule will not apply to players who are unavailable due to injury or other medical reasons.

In a statement on social media, Brook said, This is a very important time for England cricket, and I want to fully focus on the preparations for the upcoming series. I need to recharge myself for this, as this has been the busiest time of my career so far.

He further wrote, I know that not everyone will understand this decision, and I don’t expect them to. But I have to do what I feel is right, and for me, playing for my country is the priority and focus.

In the last season, Brook withdrew from the Delhi Capitals due to a family bereavement. So far, he has only played one IPL season (2023) for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
