EPS Accuses DMK Government of 'Murdering Democracy' by Suppressing Opposition Voices

Chennai, 22 April (H.S.): AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) has launched a scathing attack on the DMK government, accusing it of stifling the opposition’s right to raise public issues and labeling such actions as murder of democracy.

Speaking at a press conference in Chennai, EPS alleged that the DMK government is systematically denying the opposition its fundamental democratic rights within the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. He claimed that AIADMK members are being prevented from raising critical concerns related to the welfare of the people, citing instances of disruptions and expulsions.

The DMK government’s actions are a direct assault on democratic principles. They are attempting to silence the voice of the opposition, which is crucial for holding the government accountable, EPS stated. He further emphasized that the opposition’s role is to bring public grievances to the attention of the government and demand solutions.

EPS specifically criticized the Speaker of the Assembly for what he perceived as biased rulings and for allowing the treasury benches to dominate proceedings. He asserted that the AIADMK would continue to fight for its right to raise public issues and expose the government’s alleged shortcomings.

This accusation comes amidst heightened political tensions in Tamil Nadu, with the AIADMK positioning itself as a strong opposition force against the ruling DMK. The statements by EPS indicate a growing concern among opposition parties about the state of democratic discourse in the state.
