Excise department raids illegal liquor operation at salia sahi slum, 9 arrested

Bhubaneswar, 14 March (H.S.): The Excise Department carried out a successful raid in the Salia Sahi slum of Bhubaneswar on Friday morning after receiving a tip-off about the illegal sale of country liquor. Nine individuals, including several women, were arrested, and a large quantity of illegal country liquor and fermented liquor was seized.

Officials reported that during the operation, the Excise team destroyed between 5,000 to 6,000 liters of fermented liquor and seized 1,000 liters of country liquor. The raid was prompted by reliable intelligence that illegal liquor was being sold in the area.

In a strategic move, an Excise officer disguised as a customer gathered key information before a 40-member team, including the Excise SP, raided the slum. The department also uncovered that country liquor was being produced in the slum, with illegal supplies being smuggled in from Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Ganjam, and Athagarh.
