
Sacramento (California), May 21 (H.S.): The famous American television actor George Wendt (76) passed away on Tuesday. He took his last breath at his home in Studio City, California. Actor George Wendt is remembered for his role as Norm Peterson in the television sitcom ‘Cheers’.
He received six consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards for his portrayal of the beer-drinking everyman Norm Peterson in the sitcom Cheers. His spokesperson, Geoff Chedi, confirmed his death. Wendt had an illustrious career spanning over four decades in the television industry. He appeared in more than 170 television shows.
The family stated in a statement that he was a very dear person and that they could never forget him. Wendt was one of the most recognizable faces in the world of television. His character, Norm, was a cheerful beer lover. A native of Chicago, Wendt started his career at The Second City Comedy Theater. He studied economics at Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Missouri.
Wendt took on guest roles in shows like Heart to Heart and Making the Grade in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He got his big break in 1982 with Cheers, which aired until 1993. His co-stars included Ted Danson, Rhea Perlman, Woody Harrelson, Kirstie Alley, Shelley Long, and Kelsey Grammer. Danson expressed disbelief over Wendt’s passing, stating that they could never forget him. He also worked in several films, making even the smallest moments special. In the 1994 movie The Little Rascals, Wendt played the role of a man selling wood, gaining widespread recognition.
