Fatal Helicopter Crash in Doncaster Claims One Life, Injures Three

DONCASTER, England, 31 October (H.S.): A 70-year-old man was killed and three other people, including a ten-year-old boy, were injured after a helicopter crashed in a field near Doncaster on Thursday .Emergency services responded to the incident in a field off Ings Lane in Bentley at approximately 10:15 GMT.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed that despite the efforts of medical personnel, the 70-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been notified and is receiving support from officers. The pilot, a 41-year-old man, along with a 58-year-old female passenger and a 10-year-old boy, sustained only minor injuries.

The aircraft had departed from Retford Gamston Airport in Nottinghamshire shortly before the crash. A joint investigation has been launched by South Yorkshire Police and the government’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB), which has deployed a team of experts to the site.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone with footage of the helicopter in the moments leading up to the incident.A witness working nearby reported hearing that the helicopter’s engine sounded really bad as it flew over the area. Local residents and officials have expressed shock and sadness.

Energy Secretary and local MP Ed Miliband described the news as devastating, while another resident praised the pilot, suggesting they may have averted a greater tragedy by avoiding nearby homes, train tracks, and industrial sites.

A police cordon and road closures remain in effect around the crash site.
