Father-son arrested for setting family member ablaze over land dispute in UP

08 April (HS): A father-son duo in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested for

setting fire to a family member over a land dispute. Tarun Kumar Mishra’s feud with his brother

Basantlal ended in Mishra’s death when he was doused with fuel and set on

fire. Police in Balrampur district,

Uttar Pradesh, have detained a father-son duo suspected of setting fire to a

cousin, in a gruesome reminder of out-of-control familial conflict. According to a top law enforcement officer,

the tragedy is the result of a long-standing land dispute. According to Additional Superintendent of

Police Yogesh Kumar, tensions between Tarun Kumar Mishra and his brother

Basantlal, both Ratanpur village inhabitants, had been rising. The regular verbal altercations reached a sad

conclusion. Mishra was reportedly doused in fuel and then set alight while

sleeping on his home’s porch. He died on

Sunday night from his injuries while undergoing treatment in Lucknow. Police have already apprehended the

perpetrator and recovered the fuel canister used to commit crime.
