
New Delhi, July 14 (H.S.): Divya Deshmukh, India’s young chess player, has reached the pre-quarterfinals of the FIDE Women’s World Cup, defeating Croatia’s Tihodora Injac. Divya won the first game and drew the second, sealing her victory in the third round.
Senior player Koneru Hampy also advanced by beating Poland’s Klaudia Kulon after a drawn first game and a win in the second. However, other Indian players Vantika Agrawal, R. Vaishali, and Harika Dronavali all ended their matches in draws in the third round. The upcoming rounds are highly anticipated.
