Itanagar, 08 March (HS): Today marks one year of the inauguration of Sela Tunnel, India’s highest two-lane tunnel. The tunnel was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 09, 2024. On this occasion on Saturday, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju visited the tunnel and congratulated the entire team for this extraordinary achievement.
In the last period, this tunnel has become a means of uninterrupted movement of tourists, local residents and army convoys. This has reduced travel time and distance, which has also reduced transportation costs. It has had a significant impact especially in Tawang and further areas. The socio-economic condition of the area has been strengthened due to the tunnel. The increase in the number of tourists in Tawang, hotel construction and expansion of other infrastructure have proved this impact.
Sela Tunnel has also received many prestigious awards in the last one year. These include a mention in the World Book of Records, ASSOCHAM Award, Build Infra Award, and a Gold Medal presented to Project Vartak by the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh.
