
New Delhi, March 12 (HS): The Department of Fisheries, under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, is enhancing coastal communities through the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). This initiative focuses on developing 100 Coastal Fishermen Villages (CFV) into Climate Resilient Coastal Fishermen Villages (CRCFV) across all coastal states, including Andhra Pradesh. An investment of Rs. 200 crore has been allocated, covering Rs. 30 crore for the first phase, with Rs. 7.50 crore released to Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, during 2020-2024, approvals for fisheries and aquaculture development worth Rs. 2398.72 crore were given, including Rs. 559.10 crore in central funds. Key approved activities encompass hatcheries, biofloc ponds, open sea cage culture, and various infrastructure projects to strengthen sustainable livelihoods, with ongoing implementations noted in Kakinada District.
