Foreign Secretary To Update Parliamentary Committee Today On India-Pakistan Strain

Vikram Misri

New Delhi, 19 May (H.S.): Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is set to brief the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs on Monday regarding Operation Sindoor and the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. Chaired by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, the committee’s focus will be on the diplomatic, military, and regional impacts following India’s military operation.

The context includes heightened tensions due to a terror attack in Pahalgam, leading to India’s targeted actions against terror infrastructure across the border, which precipitated several days of military confrontations before a ceasefire was reached on May 10. Misri will discuss India’s diplomatic engagement with Islamabad and the challenges of cross-border security, highlighting adjustments in foreign policy shaped by the evolving security landscape. His past briefings have covered India’s growing relations with neighboring countries and developments with nations like Canada.

The importance of this briefing is underscored by the sensitive state of India-Pakistan relations, necessitating a balance between military preparedness and diplomatic efforts. Concurrently, the Committee on Water Resources, led by BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy, will address pressing issues such as monsoon floods and river management.
