Nagpur, 09 May (HS): The
Maharashtra government has launched an investigation into alleged attempts to
grab 42 acres of land in the district, an official said on Friday. Acting on
complaints about the suspected land grab, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar
Bawankule held a high-level meeting in Mumbai on Thursday night. He directed
senior officials to submit a detailed report on the matter. District Collector
Vipin Itankar and senior forest department officials were also present at the
meeting.
Some Nagpurians have
alleged that some forest department officials colluded with certain individuals
to illegally acquire acres of valuable forest land worth crores of rupees by
manipulating the land allotment process, as stated in a release from Revenue
Minister Bawankule’s office.
“Those
responsible will not be spared under any circumstances,” Bawankule said. He
instructed the suspension of the staffers facing investigation, and ordered the
local authorities to submit a detailed report immediately.
