New Delhi, June 8(HS): Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPI) have shifted to a selling stance in June, recording a net sell-off of ₹8,749 crore in the first week. This follows notable purchasing activity in the preceding months, with FPIs buying ₹19,860 crore in May and ₹4,223 crore in April. Overall for 2025, FPIs withdrew ₹3,973 crore in March, ₹34,574 crore in February, and a significant ₹78,027 crore in January, bringing total withdrawals to ₹1.01 lakh crore this year.

Prashant Dhami from Dhami Securities cites escalating U.S.-China tensions and rising U.S. bond yields as factors prompting sales, while investors gravitate towards safer assets like gold amid recession fears. The Reserve Bank of India’s recent 50 basis points repo rate cut is generating optimism among domestic investors, although Dhami warns that deteriorating U.S.-China relations could continue to pressure global markets. There remains concern over high market valuations in India, which, if unaddressed, could hinder stock market growth.
