New Delhi, Aug 27 (HS): Indian equity markets remained closed on Wednesday on account of Ganesh Chaturthi, with no trading across the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE). However, the commodity markets will operate as usual in the evening session, beginning at 5 p.m. and running until 11:30 p.m.

According to exchange notifications, all major equity-linked segments — including equity derivatives, stock lending and borrowing (SLB), currency derivatives, corporate bonds, electronic gold receipts (EGR), and the NDS-RST — remain shut for the day. The National Stock Exchange has also suspended trading in mutual funds, interest rate derivatives, and negotiated trade reporting platforms until Thursday.

Normal business will resume on August 28, which will also mark the monthly expiry of Nifty 50, Bank Nifty, Midcap Nifty, and equity derivatives contracts.

Looking ahead, exchanges have flagged upcoming trading holidays. The next market closure will be on October 2 for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra. October will also see breaks on October 21 for Diwali-Lakshmi Puja — although traditional muhurat trading will be held for a limited period — and October 22 for Balipratipada. Further holidays fall on November 5 for Gurpurab and December 25 for Christmas. Separately, the currency derivative segment will also remain shut on September 5 to mark Eid-e-Milad.
