
ACCRA, Ghana , 13 October (H.S.): The Ghanaian national football team has qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating Comoros 1-0 in their final qualifier match on Sunday.Despite needing only a single point to secure their spot, Ghana began the match with an aggressive offensive strategy. Comoros, the only team to have defeated Ghana during the qualifying campaign, presented a tough challenge and created a goal-scoring opportunity in the third minute.
However, the first half concluded without any goals.The deadlock was broken early in the second half when Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mohammed Kudus scored in the 47th minute, sending the crowd of approximately 35,000 into a frenzy.With this victory, Ghana finished at the top of Group I with 25 points, earning direct qualification for the World Cup.
Madagascar placed second with 19 points, followed by Mali with 18. Comoros, the Central African Republic, and Chad finished with 15, 8, and 1 point, respectively.This marks Ghana’s fifth appearance in the FIFA World Cup, having previously qualified in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022. The team’s best performance came in 2010 when they reached the quarter-finals.
