Delhi, 2 March (H.S.): Rohan Desai, the secretary of the Goa Cricket Association (GCA), has been unanimously elected as the new joint secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The BCCI’s decision to support smaller state associations is seen as a positive step towards promoting a more inclusive and diverse cricketing scene in India.
His election took place during the BCCI’s Special General Meeting (SGM) at its headquarters in Mumbai on Saturday (March 1). The election was held to fill the vacancy left by Devajit Saikia, who was recently promoted to the role of BCCI secretary after Jay Shah took on a new role as the ICC chairman.
The BCCI’s strategic appointment signifies a shift from traditional power centers to involving smaller state association office bearers in key roles.
Desai was the sole candidate to file his nomination for the joint secretary position, making his election a mere formality. The event was attended by key BCCI office bearers, including president Roger Binny and vice-president Rajiv Shukla. With this appointment, Goa’s presence in Indian cricket administration has strengthened.
Goa CM Pramod Sawant says, Rohan Dessai being elected as the new BCCI joint secretary will be beneficial for the state of Goa. There has been a long pending demand to set up an International Cricket Stadium in the state. The demand will surely be fulfilled as there will be better coordination between the GCA and BCCI.
