Governor Paudel Leads Effort to Aid Banks and Businesses Hit by Gen-Z Agitation

Kathmandu, September 13 (HS): The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has initiated a systematic assessment of losses sustained by banks, financial institutions, and industries in the wake of violent protests organized by Gen-Z activists on September 8 and 9. Central Bank Governor Dr. Bishwanath Paudel—whose own residence was torched during the unrest—has spearheaded efforts to compile damage reports and ensure the financial sector’s smooth functioning.

According to NRB spokesperson Kiran Pandit, the central bank is collecting detailed loss data and developing measures to facilitate the swift resumption of normal operations for affected institutions and businesses. As part of this recovery drive, Governor Paudel conducted separate meetings with representatives from banking and business sectors.

Key banking participants included Machhapuchchhre Bank CEO and Nepal Bankers’ Association President Santosh Koirala, Global IME Bank CEO and Association Vice President Surendra Regmi, Development Bankers’ Association President Suyog Shrestha, Sanima Bank CEO Nischal Raj Pandey, and Garima Development Bank CEO Madhav Upadhyay.

From the business community, senior Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Vice President Anjan Shrestha, Nepal Chamber of Commerce President Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal, Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) President Birendra Pandey, former CNI President Satish More, Chamber Senior Vice President Deepak Malhotra, and business leader Prabal Jung Pandey were in attendance.

Governor Paudel underscored NRB’s ongoing coordination with both financial institutions and the private sector to mitigate disruptions and stabilize the economy in the aftermath of the demonstrations.
