Guwahati, 24 April (HS): Based on a tip-off, the Basishtha police set up a checking point near the Brahmaputra Board Office, Lalmati and stopped a suspicious red coloured vehicle (AS-01-MC-5315). This vehicle was going from Barpeta to Meghalaya and government subsidized urea was being carried illegally in it.

The police detained the driver for questioning. During interrogation, the driver could not produce any valid documents or transit permits, after which he was arrested. The arrested driver has been identified as Suleman Miyan (33, Barpeta).

Suleman Miyan admitted during interrogation that he was carrying government urea without any legal permission and he has done this many times before.

When the police searched the vehicle, they found 80 bags of urea marked Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Urvarak Pariyojana, 10 bags of potatoes (for hiding) and a black tarpaulin. The police have seized all the material and the case is under investigation.
