Kolkata, 28 February (H.S.) – Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd has signed an agreement with the Indian Army to construct a 130-feet-long Single Lane Modular Bridge (70R) in Arunachal Pradesh. The bridge will be built in Taksing, located in the Upper Subansiri district, near the China border. The total cost of the project is ₹3.13 crore.
On February 27, 2025, Natarajan Partheepan, General Manager (Bailey Bridges), GRSE, signed the agreement with a senior officer from the 237 Engineer Regiment of the Indian Army.
In a statement released on Friday, GRSE highlighted its 2022 achievement of becoming the only Indian company to receive Green Channel Certification from the Indian Army for Portable Steel Bridges (Bailey Type). The company has since supplied modular bridges to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), various state governments, and friendly nations such as Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka.
During the 2024 Annual General Meeting, GRSE Chairman and Managing Director, Cmde (Retd) P.R. Hari, stated, The Bailey Bridge Division has established a strong market presence in India. Leveraging our expertise, introducing new products, and adopting an effective marketing strategy have helped increase revenue from ₹69 crore in 2022-23 to ₹140 crore in 2023-24.
In 2024, GRSE signed an agreement with NHIDCL to supply Class 70R Double Lane Bridges to facilitate rapid deployment of troops and equipment in forward areas. The company has already delivered 44 Modular Bridges to BRO across India.
A GRSE official added, To date, GRSE has supplied over 5,800 Modular Bridges, aligning with the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives.
The construction of this new Bailey Bridge for the Indian Army will not only enhance strategic connectivity but also contribute to infrastructure development in border regions.
