London, May 28 (H.S.): England’s fast bowler Gus Atkinson has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against West Indies due to a hamstring injury. The series will start on May 29, but the England and Wales Cricket Board has clarified that no other player will be included in the team as a replacement for Atkinson.
Atkinson sustained this injury during the recent single Test match played against Zimbabwe in Nottingham. In that match, he bowled a total of 19.2 overs and took 3 wickets. His injury is another significant blow to England’s fast bowling unit, as Jofra Archer was also ruled out of the same series earlier.
The England management hopes that Atkinson will regain full fitness before the five-match Test series against India, which begins on June 20.
In this series, Harry Brook will take charge of the England ODI team for the first time as the permanent captain. The three ODIs will be played on May 29 (Birmingham), June 1 (Cardiff), and June 3 (The Oval, London).
