
Guwahati, 5 April (HS): Guwahati Metropolitan Police has achieved remarkable success in crime control in the three months from January to March of the current year. During this period, 587 thieves were arrested and stolen goods worth about ₹5 crore were recovered in 530 cases.
Guwahati Joint Commissioner of Police Ankur Jain told in a press conference on Saturday that under crime against property, the police succeeded in quick action by solving 55 cases in 6 hours, 59 in 12 hours and 49 in 24 hours. During this time, stolen goods were recovered by raiding various scrap dumps in the city and 41 dump owners and employees were arrested.
The police also performed well in vehicle theft cases and recovered 22 four-wheelers and 81 two-wheelers. 84 thieves were arrested in this connection. Also, an interstate vehicle theft gang active in Meghalaya and Manipur was busted.
192 drug peddlers were arrested in the drive against drugs. 140 NDPS cases were registered during this period. The police have seized a total of four kg heroin, three hundred kg ganja and seven thousand bottles of codeine syrup.
To make the metropolis crime free and safe, Guwahati Police also caught 20 snatchers and mobile thieves. 239 missing people were found and 838 mobile phones were returned to their owners.
Apart from this, the police also completed 4923 passports, 795 PRC, 1987 Seva Setu, 552 service and other verification cases.
1051 complaints were received in the last three months on the mobile number 60269-00651 issued by the Police Commissioner for direct communication with the public, almost all of which have been resolved. Action is underway on 42 complaints.
Towards the completion of police service, 172 Form-54 were provided to accident victims and 76 post-mortem reports were provided to the relatives of the deceased.
In three months, the police recovered about ₹72 lakh from cyber criminals and returned it to the victims. Also, complaints related to Facebook (50), Instagram (39), WhatsApp (30) and email (6) were resolved.
In these three months, special arrangements were also made for smooth traffic during events like IPL, Advantage Assam, Jhoomur Binandini held in Guwahati.
