Gyanendra Shah plans monarchy revival with support in Kathmandu

Gyanendra Shah, former king of Nepal, is trying to bring back the monarchy. On March 28, a show of strength is planned in Kathmandu, with support from the National Democratic Party.

Kathmandu, March 26 (H.S.) : The National Democratic Party has launched a nationwide movement for one month to support former King Gyanendra Shah’s initiative to restore the monarchy in Nepal. This campaign includes rallies, sit-ins, and demonstrations against the current government.

A significant event will occur on March 28, when the party actively joins a public demonstration in Kathmandu in favor of the former king, the plans for which were outlined following a two-day meeting. Dhawal Shamsher Rana, the movement’s coordinator, announced the strategy at a press conference.

A committee, led by Navaraj Suvedi and encompassing all pro-monarchy parties and groups, has been formed by the former king. During this time, opposition parties are also preparing to protest against the monarchy. Additionally, the National Democratic Party will hold a public gathering in Kathmandu on April 8, extending invitations to locals from surrounding areas to participate.

Rajendra Prasad Lingden, president of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), stated that they will initiate a public outreach campaign today to encourage citizen involvement, with district-level events scheduled from April 10 to April 20. Starting April 20, daily demonstrations will occur in Kathmandu, culminating in a planned protest outside Narayanhiti Palace on April 24, marking the anniversary of the monarchy’s abolition in 2008.
