
Bridgetown (Barbados), June 28(HS): Australia secured a remarkable victory in the series by defeating West Indies by 159 runs on the third day of the Barbados Test, thanks to Josh Hazlewood’s (5/43) devastating bowling. West Indies’ second innings collapsed in the final session, with Nathan Lyon taking the last two wickets on consecutive balls to end the match. At one point, it seemed that the match would stretch into the fourth day due to Shamar Joseph’s aggressive play and Justin Greaves’ defensive batting. However, Joseph was out at slip and Jaden Seales was out at short leg, concluding the match that evening.
Travis Head was named ‘Player of the Match’ for scoring half-centuries in both innings. He batted boldly on a difficult pitch and also capitalized on West Indies’ poor fielding, with the team dropping 7 catches throughout the match. Australia’s second innings featured standout performances from Carey, Webster, and Head.
In Australia’s second innings, Alex Carey (65), Beau Webster (63), and Travis Head (61) played crucial innings. Carey completed his half-century in just 40 balls, including some spectacular strokes. He adopted an aggressive approach against Shamar Joseph and Justin Greaves, hitting some boundaries.
Hazlewood took crucial wickets while Lyon finished the match. In West Indies’ second innings, Hazlewood caused the most damage. Captain Pat Cummins picked up the wicket of Shai Hope with a low delivery that bowled him out. Marnus Labuschagne ran out Alzarri Joseph with an accurate throw, while Lyon ended the match by taking the last two wickets. Shamar Joseph’s struggling innings and bowling For West Indies, Shamar Joseph scored a rapid 44 runs and took 5 wickets in the second innings, but his performance couldn’t prevent the defeat. He bowled the most overs in the match.
