New Delhi, March 21 (HS): Health Minister JP Nadda called on Members of Parliament to set an example by undergoing regular health check-ups, highlighting the rising incidence of obesity and lifestyle-related diseases among leaders on Friday.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, he noted that lifestyle changes have led to an increase in non-communicable diseases, rising from 37 percent in 1990 to 61.8 percent in 2016, as reported by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
Nadda emphasized that these diseases are linked to eating habits and daily routines, urging MPs to have annual medical check-ups. The Lok Sabha Speaker also supported this suggestion.
Prime Minister Modi has raised public awareness on this issue, advocating for reduced oil consumption to combat obesity.
