Intense Rain Hits Delhi Causing Waterlogging In Multiple Areas, Metal Framework Collapses At Airport

Delhi, 2 May (H.S.): Delhiites experienced heavy rain on Friday, resulting in significant waterlogging in areas like Dwarka Underpass, South Extension Ring Road, Minto Road, RK Puram, and Lajpat Nagar. The relentless downpour also caused a metal structure to collapse at Terminal-3 of Delhi Airport. In response to the severe weather, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued alerts, cautioning residents about potential uprooting of trees and damage to crops.

The IMD elaborated that the heavy rainfall could disrupt power and communication lines, and might cause minor damages to kutcha houses and huts. Residents were advised to monitor weather updates, remain indoors, and avoid unnecessary travel.

Flight operations at Delhi Airport were impacted due to the adverse weather. The airport’s announcement indicated delays for certain flights, urging passengers to check with their respective airlines for updated information. IndiGo and Air India echoed similar advisories, warning that thunderstorms and changing weather could disrupt flight schedules. They encouraged travelers to arrive earlier at the airport for their flights. The weather situation in Delhi, characterized by intense rainfall and thunderstorms, remains under close watch by authorities as they strive to mitigate disruptions for residents and travelers.
