JERUSALEM, 25 October (H.S.): The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Friday that a targeted airstrike in southern Lebanon resulted in the death of a senior Hezbollah commander. The strike, which occurred in the Nabatieh area, eliminated Abbas Hassan Karky, who the IDF identified as the logistics commander for Hezbollah’s Southern Front headquarters.

According to a statement from the Israeli military, Karky was killed on Friday when a drone strike targeted the vehicle he was driving. The IDF asserted that the operation was necessary as Karky was spearheading efforts to rebuild Hezbollah’s military infrastructure and combat strength in southern Lebanon.

The military stated that his activities, which included managing the transfer and storage of weapons, were a direct violation of the ceasefire agreement that went into effect on November 27, 2024.A Lebanese security source confirmed that Karky was a Hezbollah official.

According to Lebanese media reports, he was related to Ali Karaki, the former chief of the Southern Front who was assassinated alongside Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in 2024.This incident is the latest in a series of Israeli attacks despite the ongoing truce. It came just a day after Israel conducted strikes on other Hezbollah sites, including what it described as a training camp and an arms cache.

The ceasefire, brokered by the United States, requires Hezbollah to withdraw its forces north of the Litani River and cease all military operations against Israel. However, the IDF has continued to carry out occasional strikes, citing self-defense and the need to counter immediate threats.
