Home Ministry directs states to conduct mock drill on May 7

New Delhi, May 5 (HS): The Central Home Ministry has directed all states and union territories to conduct a mock drill on May 7 with the aim of strengthening civil safety preparations. This decision has been taken following the Pahalgam attacks and increased tensions with Pakistan.

According to government sources, this mock drill will involve testing the effectiveness of sirens to alert citizens in the event of aerial attacks, as well as educating citizens and students about basic self-defense measures. Additionally, the practice of the emergency procedure of crash blackout during potential threats of war and safeguarding infrastructures by concealing sensitive establishments will also be included. Furthermore, plans for the safe evacuation of people in emergency situations will be updated and rehearse as well.

Sources indicate that the primary objective of this exercise is to raise awareness among citizens, ensure their participation, and review the preparedness of state and local administrations. This mock drill is a coordinated effort to assess the effectiveness of the civil safety system at various levels.

The Home Ministry has urged states to prepare a complete plan for this exercise in advance and to ensure its successful execution in coordination with all relevant agencies. This initiative is part of the country’s overall security strategy and is considered an important step towards addressing any future emergencies.
