NEW DELHI, 13 March (H.S.) : The challenges facing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi
continue to mount. Following their loss of power, the BJP government has dealt
another significant blow. The Union Home Ministry has initiated major actions
against two prominent AAP leaders, former minister Manish Sisodia and Satyendra
Jain. The Home Ministry has sanctioned investigations into corruption
allegations involving both former ministers. As per the directives issued by
the ministry, the Vigilance Directorate of the Delhi Government had sought an
inquiry into these matters. The Home Ministry has now granted its approval in
accordance with Section 17-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Satyendra Jain has been incarcerated for 18 months facing
grave allegations of corruption. The Enforcement Directorate is currently
probing him for money laundering activities. Additionally, the Home Ministry
has authorized an investigation into the corruption that occurred during his
time as a minister. Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was also
imprisoned for approximately 17 months in connection with the excise policy
scandal.
AAP has characterized the entire incident as a ‘political
vendetta.’ Leaders of the party assert that the BJP government is exploiting
government agencies to stifle opposition leaders.
