Hyderabad foils terror plot, arrests ISIS suspects

New Delhi/Delhi, 19 May (H.S.): Security forces in Hyderabad, Telangana, thwarted a terror plot on Sunday, arresting two suspects allegedly planning bomb blasts in the city. Identified as Siraj Ur Rehman (29) and Syed Sameer (28), the duo is believed to be connected to an ISIS module based in Saudi Arabia.

Their arrests followed a significant joint operation by the counterintelligence units of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Police, initiated from an intelligence tip-off. Rehman was first detained in Vizianagaram, and his questioning led to Sameer’s arrest in Hyderabad. Police raids on locations linked to the suspects uncovered explosive materials, including ammonia, sulphur, and aluminium powder.

Reports indicate that Siraj obtained these materials in Vizianagaram, as they were reportedly following instructions from the ISIS module to execute attacks in Hyderabad. This foiled plot follows a recent deadly attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which significantly escalated India’s military and diplomatic responses to terrorism.
