'I am not retiring: Hitman brushes off retirement rumors post-Victory

Dubai, March 10(HS): Following India’s victory over New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday night, captain Rohit Sharma put an end to circulating speculations regarding his career. He clearly stated, I am not going to retire.

The moment Rohit stepped into the press conference room, he seemed to anticipate the inevitable question about his future.The Indian captain responded in his signature style saying, One more thing. I am not going to retire from this format, just to make sure that no rumours are spread going forward.

The legendary batsman, who has led India to four ICC Trophy finals and won two titles, made this announcement with confidence.

During the press conference, in response to a question, he said in Hindi, Future plan? No future plan. What is happening will continue. His statement clearly indicated that he still has tremendous enthusiasm and hunger for cricket.

Rohit Sharma’s performance in the Champions Trophy was outstanding, where he scored 180 runs and also completed his 11,000 international ODI runs during this period. In 273 ODI matches, he has scored 11,168 runs at an average of 48.76, including 32 centuries, of which three are double centuries.

There had been ongoing discussions about Rohit’s retirement during this tournament, especially since he announced his retirement from the T20 format after winning the T20 World Cup in Barbados last June.
